Work with Stories

There's three ways to work with stories:

1. Using the Notes Interface with Plain Text
2. Using the Notes Interface with Rich Text
3. Using the Web Interface with Internet Explorer.

After determining what interface to use, I will go over some of the options in either interface.

1. Using the Notes Interface with Plain Text
When creating a new story with the plain text option, you are basically working in a Notepad like environment. The text you type will be treated as plain text HTML. You will need to add HTML tags to the text yourself if you want to format it, use a table, or insert a picture. If you are not used to typing HTML this could take some time and effort to learn, although it's not that hard. The results will be rewarding, as this posting type gives you the most control: you alone determine what goes where, and how it looks, as long as you use the correct HTML formatting tags.

Some pointers to get you going on HTML:

-HTML Cheat sheet: http://webmonkey.wired.com/webmonkey/reference/html_cheatsheet/
-HTML color guide:http://webmonkey.wired.com/webmonkey/reference/color_codes/

There's plenty of these 'HTML for newbies' pages on the internet; if you have a better one, don't hesitate to add it.

2. Using the Notes Interface with Rich Text
The Rich Text interface in the Notes client allows you to create and format a new story much like you would create any other piece of Notes Rich Text, like a new mail memo that needs some formatting. For people that don't trust themselves to use HTML, this is a viable option - as long as you keep it simple. Some formatting may not render nice on the web front end if you use Rich Text posting. Most notably in this regard: tables may not look as nice as you wished, when using Rich Text posting.

3. Using the Web Interface with Internet Explorer
This interface, IE only for the time being, allows you to create and edit posts from within a browser. If the ACL is set properly, you will have to login first; this button needs to be enabled in the Miscellaneous section of the Blog Config document. After logging in, the Rich Text editor interface gives you most of the options the Notes interface has; but not all.
